In this treasury, the world's number one card wizard sets forth the precise details of 150 professional card tricks--none of which require sleight-of-hand dexterity. Presented with simple instructions and clear illustrations, plus suggestions for accompanying patter, are Houdini's "Card on the Ceiling," Blackstone's "Card Trick Without Cards," Carlyle's "Piano Card Trick," Milton Berle's "Quickie Card Deal," and Scarne's very own "Drunken Poker Deal" and "Knockout Card Trick." Unabridged republication of the edition originally published by Crown Publishers, Inc., New York, 1950.

This is one of the best card magic books you can get. But, I agree with David: Doing things with the cards behind your back does not make me feel comfortable, either. Of course, if you know the Pass and a few other sleight of hand techniques, you will not need to do things with the cards behind your back, to perform these tricks. Scarne's goal was to find ways to perform the greatest card tricks without Passes, top changes, etc. And he succeeded: the tricks really work! Of course, if you know a little sleight of hand, the results are even superior. By the way, Roberto Giobbi included sleight of hand versions of tricks from this book in Card College. And the "self working trick" in volume V, "Affinity in numbers", is also taken from this book! This is a book you will love. – Wilhelm Eberhard
This is a great book for beginners and experienced magicians alike. If you are a beginner, this is the book for you. You will not have to concentrate on performing sleights, so you will be able to put all of you energy into presenting the effect. This is the best way to start performing magic. If you are an experienced magician, buy this book. You will learn new ideas and concepts that can be applied to create better effects. For the amount of information this book contains, you can't go wrong with the price. The only reason I gave this 4 out of 5 was because quite a few (between 20 and 30) of the 155 or so effects required you to do things with cards behind you back. I don't think this is practicle. Other than that, this is a great book. – David Gingera
