– Danh Cong This is the very first time i am really disappointed with Magic Depot. I just bought one of thoose 2 weeks ago and recieved it about 1 week ago. I was very happy with the product, the thread is of high quality. The only problem it has is that the battery slot doesn't fit, which means that you can only operate the pen, if u add some paper to the battery spot. By doing this the pen works, but if the paper gets soft after some while it can automatically stop. I asked it i could replace the pen, but instead i got the message that i should contact the manufacterer... My very first disappointment with the service at The Magic Depot! I guess i must just live on with some more paper in the battery slot then. [ Note from Aaron Smith: If we can't fix the problem we will always direct you to someone that can because service is important to us! ]
– Charles Williams Hey,
i just signed up and i like how the spider pen looks but can anyone tell me how it works before i buy it so i know what I'm getting myself into?
If you can thanks
– Wilhelm Eberhard The replacement spool is expensive, but there is kevlar thread sold separately at a reasonable price, and it is very easy to recharge a spool, thanks to the electric motor. Just make sure you attach an end of the thread to a wall, stand away from the wall so the thread will be extended and not get entangled, turn on the motor and walk toward the thread anchor. Your spider pen is ready to be used again!
– PUYAL GANESH The first pen I got had problem. The motor didn't work. But Mr.Smith true to his words replaced it which is working fine. This pen is cool. I have used many types of IT system but for fast impromptu set up this is the best.
– Wilhelm Eberhard Some tips for the Spider Pen: 1. If you have problems with your spider not working, it's most probably due to loose batteries, specially if you replaced the batteries with other brand different from the ones sold for the spider pen.
Try inserting a little ball of paper to add padding and force the batteries against the contact, and that will ensure your Spider Pen will work all the time.
2. The spool might get entangled if the the thread cuts through the wax and gets loose from the anchor. To prevent this, roll a piece or ordinary sewing thread in the wax pellet that serves as anchor. The invisible thread (IT) will get entangled in the sewing thread and will not cut through the wax. This is the standard way to prepare wax to anchor IT.
3. Up and down movement can be obtained by turning the motor off and on discreetly. When you turn it off, the floating object descends, when you turn it on again, it floats up. It is impossible to obtain this effect with ordinary reels, whose tension is always constant.
– Luis Enrique Valenzuela I think is the best ITR ever invented!!!! I really haven't got any problem with it, is really versatile. About the fashion point, I use the pen in a black jacket so it doesn't "shows" too much the pencil. The thread is very very invisible, like no other thread. This comes with 2 spoolers (already hooked with wax!), one battery and the pen. The only cons, I can consider is that there's something wrong with the pen, it doesn't look like a diary pen, but you can still use it like a "fine" pen. If you buy it, get some batteries, because with one battery you've got for like 15 routines. Even though the instructions explain everything you need, and don't ever worry about the motor is truly silent.

– hashan fernando this is a awesome product but i dont no hw to use it
– Ryan Dennehy This is a totally awsome product and the cheapest one I could find. no where else could i buy this product alone for this low. i totally recomend it any magicians beginners and experienced. it is easy to work with and is very convienent. there is no need to hide it just put it in your pocket and you are ready to go. i myself work with invisible string constantly and this is the best purchase i have ever made! my audience has no idea how i am doing it. i once had some one offer me $50 to tell them the secret. i wouldn't tell them of course but man was i tempted. i would seriously recommend this to anyone even slightly interested.
– JIM STENSON Hi, I'm an extreme novice at this Illusion/magic stuff, starting with simple card tricks and the like but the Spider Pen has got me hooked big time. I was so excited when I first received the pen, within 30 minutes I broke the thread to a point I couldn’t get it off the spindle, I was extremely disappointed (until) I read that there was a SPARE, threaded spindle in a “secret” compartment in the bottom of the pen. Life instantly got better and I’ve been amazed at the amazement from my friends and family. My secret! I found that if I let the thread out with a dollar bill attached I can casually take off my eye glasses and catch the thread, casually put them back on and when the dollar bill floats up It will literally suspend in mid air right in front of my face if I just breathe on it, I was amazed when it happen the first time. This pen is very cool. I do agree that the $9.95 cost for the additional thread spindles is exaggerated but I’ve already purchased a couple of spares. I can’t say if this is cost effective for a professional to use but as a newbie to this kind of stuff I would recommend to anyone, that is, anyone I didn’t know. Thanks Magic Depot for your great price and quick shipping, keep it up.
– Trond Hagen The Spider Pen is a great device for creating fantastic floating effects. The thread is very thin and invisible under most curcumstances even close up, yet strong. I have incredible reactions with floating a bill to the floor and back up and I really love performing this effect. Unfortunately there are some backdraws: The quality of the plastic is not so good, so if you tighten the the two pieces (that you screw apart to change the battery) a little too hard the plastic can break or split. It is possible though to fix it. The batteries will be rather quickly used. After a few times use at longer distance the thread seems to tangle. I hope the quality of the pen itself will be improved in the time to come. Apart from this, it is a fantastic device that I will continue to use because of the great effect it makes and it is fairly easy to use.
– adam bailey The pen itself is great but both spools got tangled after only a few shows. Ten bucks to replace them is crazy!
– Con, I had no idea it would be "that" good. Its good. I really dont know what else to say.
– Jonathan Finch I'm surprised there are no negative reviews. Must be peer pressure. Check out Magic Cafe's reviews. One out of dozens is happy with it.
My motor works when it wants to, which can be very embarassing in a performance. When it does work, it looks great. But I can't use something that might work half the time and look great.
The Spider Thread is invisible. Happy with that.
Motor isn't powerful enough to pull a dollar bill up to your hand, but I tried it with a square of toilet paper, split in half, and it worked.
It's really neat to play with, but the batteries last you half a performance if doing it repeatedly, the motor is weak, and the wax gets the spool clogged against the wall of the pen.
NOTE FROM Aaron Smith: Spider Pens are sometimes defective to start, if you get a bad one it won't last one second, but when you get a good one, they last forever. If you happen to get a bad Spider Pen from me, I will replace it FREE! [ UPDATE 2008: This no longer seems to be a problem. Very few Spider Pens are being returned now days! ]
– Carrie Rostollan The Spider Pen is unobtrusive, and that's probably its greatest strength. I've often placed it in my pocket, and no one would know that it's helping me to do some amazing things.
Old-style thread reels are not worth the aggravation. Get the Spider Pen, and start working magic!

– Jim Collins (Grove City, Ohio) The spider pen is a real piece of ingenious work, the only limits is by your own imagination. The workings are smooth, quiet, and it's easy to replace the thread, should you ever have to. It looks like an ordinary ink pen. Floating an object in front of people is unbelieveable! We're talking close now perhaps 12" and its still undecticable. Whether you're doing a floating card, dollar bill, ball of paper; its a utility prop you need in your arsenal. Fantastic item.
– MMaster KILLER REEL! I love Spider Pen!!! People think I'm doing the real thing. Ha! I guess I am.
– Magician, Florida Very easy to use. More importantly, very easy to maintain. I'm just a weekend warrior, but Spider Pen is with me every show.
– Pete Spider Pen has made a huge difference in my close up shows. I'm able to do all sorts of effects I never thought possible. The old thread reels may each serve a unique purpose, but Spider Pen is the best thing all around.
– Keith Hanshaw I didn't like working with ITRs until the Spider Pen came out. Now I use it every day! This pen makes it so easy to float objects right under a spectator's nose and changing reels is a snap. No more sucking thread through a tiny hole when your line breaks!
