The classic "Snowstorm in China" effect is one of the most visually appealing effects possible.

The performer shows his empty hands, then displays a sheet of tissue paper and tears it into strips. The strips are bundled together and placed into a tumbler which is then filled with water. The water is thenpoured out of the tumbler with one hand, while waving a fan with the other. Immediately, the soggy ball of paper turns into a beautiful snowstorm of white flakes of paper.
