– Simen Engebretsen My gimmic did not last for longer than one tryout :(
I belive that this gimmic is made for American bottles. I`m from Norway and it seems that our and other european contries have standard bottles made with thicker plastic. The gimmick just was not tough enough to handel the material of the bottle and is now usless. If you buy this trick make sure to use a bottle with thin plastic. NOTE FROM THE MAGIC DEPOT! Behold the Scarabaeus works great on any plastic bottle, it sounds like maybe you recieved a defective unit? All these years later, thousands sold, we've only ever had 18 defective units! I'll happily replace it for you. Thanks Simen!
– Edwin Takayama This trick is amazing!!!love it !n love to do it!! I become famous becouse of this trick!!who dnt knw my name edwin in my area~edwin who?"edwin magic man who can put u phone through bottle" 5star f you!!Love scarabaeus!!
– Pauley people have seen nothing like this! theyr reactions are just looks of shock. love it five stars!
– hashan fernando Good trick if you practice!
– jeff kempton i like it. it's sneeky and no one would ever think to look on your thumb while you are holding the bottle. it's noisey at first, but with some practice you learn ways of doing it quieter. a little pricey, but isn't most good tricks.
– Adrian, Hong Kong I am really impressed with the service! I have purchased Behold The Scarabaeus in a local magic store but it is broken. The Magic Depot, as the manufacturer of this gimmick, is willing to treat me a free replacement without an extra question.
– chloe mcneil Is it real?
– Peterson I have really enjoyed phone in bottle on stage. We use a liter bottle with the label removed and it looks great and never fails to get big applause!
– Dylan The trick is WAY WAY OVERPRICED for a gimmick that is hard to ditch. Im highly disappointed and the instuctional video is a JOKE it constantly talks about the same thing. This trick should sell for $15-20 at best.
– John Cramer One way to help on the noise problem is to play with the bottle as you hand it out for examination by gently squeezing it and making popping noise just when they examine it. Then if you go slowly as has been mentioned before any slight noise should not be suspicious. I find a great way to add to the effect is to have an accomplice place a call to your cell phone right after inserting it into bottle. This gives you a good reason to quickly cut it out before any one wants to examine it. Also kind of funny. Hand it to spectator and have person on other end ask them how they liked the trick.
If you keep knife clipped to same pocket as ditch device you have reason to go there when retrieving knife. Also painting the ditch device flat black will help not flashing it if pocket should become visible when moving around. This and practice make for a good effect. The only thing I have a problem with is the coin trick idea shown on the dvd.
– KingOfNynex2003 I like this trick but the gimmick is hard to ditch without making people wonder what you're doing and the actual trick is a little bit tough but if I practice it a bit more I'll probably have it down in about another day hopefully.
– william shumate This trick is kinda obvious, but it needs set-up. i find it less ironic if a friend hands you a knife to take the phone out of the bottle. the trick is really worth it if you are good at sleight-of-hand things and mis-direction. the gimmick is well made and works like a dream! i love this trick and the possibilities are endless! you can use virtually ANY plastic bottle ranging from 2 liters to 1 liters, gatorade, water and all others. Hey, you can even plant them and get BETTER results!! (takes a LOT of practice and sleight...but worth it. DO NOT get for any magician under the age of 18.MUST HAVE FOR ANY OCCASION!!
– DCDJ I rate this trick pretty good! It does seem to make some annoying sound, but that can be covered up easily by hand movements. The gimmick is not bulky, it is just right to pull out, use, and then ditch. Works perfectly on common bottles, but some you've got to be careful of, its quite hard to pull it off on them. The instructions are clear, CD was brilliant - even came with the song! This trick has given me lots of 'WOWs' from friends, keep up the good work! I'd love to see what comes next!
– Bill B The DVD isn't the most professional although I do like the song. It is a really unique trick, one most bystanders aren't expecting. Sometimes I think when you perform magic you tend to forget most people have no clue what you are about to do and we tend to over analyze things. I find you really need to use the thicker water bottles. Overall I like this one and think its one of the best in recent years.
– Ali B I agree with the people who are complaining about the noise and have noticed that myself. The “trick” is designed well however hasn’t been explained properly. The quality of the CD is poor and is only explained verbally in an interview format. I prefer to see the trick being done on the live audience and then it being broken down into every move by different angles and explanations, which this CD fails to do. You need to be very good with misdirections and controlling your audience to perform this trick. Personally I haven’t even tried performing this yet as I am not confident enough, but then again, I am pretty new to the magic community. I am sure if you are able to pull it off, the reactions you are gonna get are priceless and it could be a reputation maker for you. Would only recommend this for people who have a bit of experience and are good at misdirection and controlling their audience.
– Conrad McIntire Jr. For the effect alone this is a great trick. There have been some comments about the noise but I have not really encountered that if yo proceed slowly there really is no problem. Others say the gimmick is hard to diss and that is somewhat what true but that is where patter and misdirection come in. Having performed this trick over 50 times I can say ths is one of those effects where 95% of the people are just staring in wonder. Afterall if you let them example the bottle and then the phone and suddenly put the phone in the bottle.....what do u think the reaction is! :)
– Chris Very easy to use. As for the noise problem, it DOES make a lot of noise, but guess what people-IT DOESNT MATTER! If you're holding a plastic water bottle and squeeze just a tiny bit it makes the exact same noise. No one will or does think twice about it just start talking to them and it looks so natural to be holding the bottle and have it make a noise. Big deal. Genius gimmick, easy to alter to fit you, easy to ditch. You can also use it for more than just cell phone through bottle. You can use this for basically ANYTHING through bottle. Recommended!
– Gary_V Dang thats a good trick! Its simple dirt simple but easy to do and I did it right away!
– Jeffrey Hanson i must agree with Guy Mitchell on this on. the thing that bothers me the most is the noise. WAY too much of it. Ditching it isn't the easiest thing to do either.
– Chris Porosky I like it but find it hard to ditch. It doesn't fit me well. Has great effect though!
– Brian Hagy A recent magic show which was performed by adult actors with developmental disabilities had this trick (please note: performed BY actors with disabilities and not FOR). The audience is still begging the actors to tell how this trick works. This trick is very simple, and easy to master quickly, and extremely baffling from the audience's point of view. Even the actor with the disability was able to master it. As for the noisiness that's claimed about this trick, after experimentation we found that if you just proceed slowly, there's no sound at all. kudos to the inventor of this trick. extremely well designed.
– Schar_D Surprised at easy use gimmick fast to learn. fun everywhere carry it in your pocket easy.
– Guy Mitchell To be honest, I don't rate this trick. I don't understand how everyone rates this trick so highly. The gimick doesn't fit well, I find it really hard to ditch, it also makes far to much 'noise' so unless you are on a busy street or in a very loud venue it is given away. Also the choice of bottle is very important and the room for error is tiny. I haven't even attempted to do this trick on anyone yet...I cannot see how it is possible to do this trick without someone noticing how its done, its really obvious!
– T_Borack You guys thought of everything! I have not had the problems the previous reviewer had with bottle types. The gimmick did take some getting used to but I find myself doing this all the time!
– Darren Sorry for the negative review guys but I just find the gimmick behind this to be totally impractical. You HAVE to be selective in which bottles to perform this effect and even then, the gimmick does'nt always work so smoothly. And it really isnt all that possible to end "clean" with this. Also, everybody I've performed this for, always wants to inspect the bottle BEFORE you cut the phone out, which you definitly cannot allow.
My other gripe is, what do you do once the gimmick wears out?? (Owners of this effect should know what I mean). You cant replace it, leaving your only option to repurchase the gimmick at its already overpriced $50.00.
– Alar I'm about the purchase this one... but I have a question... can the bottle be examined after doing the trick? or handing the bottled up mobile phone to a spectator?
– mike novak Behold the Scarabaeus is everything I expected and more!!! I learned the trick the day I got it, but I still need some work.
– Yik ching Li IT is a great trick and great gimmick. and it is easy to do!!!!
I love it!!
– Ludwig Junior Laban Speechless! Best gimmick! Really easy to do! Great reactions I get whenever I perform... And you end clean!
– Kyle Corbin This is total street magic! Easy to carry around and bring out anywhere. Everyone has a water bottle and cell phone and that's killer magic impromptu!
– Mike M. This is the same trick as seen on Criss Angel's special, but the way it is done is diffrent. I would say, it looks the same to the spectator. The one on angel's special could not be done in everyday life. At least that is what I have come to understand.
I own Behold and think it is great. The gimmick was very well made and despite the cd-rom problem I thought the videos were very well done. I have done it for all of my famly and everytime it gets a great reaction. I don't use others cellphones, but I do use their bottle. I think that is a nice touch. I even had the phone go off after I inserted it. It was very funny, I had to get it out fast! Before I even bought it Aaron as the depot said if I did not like it, I could return it. What a deal! You really can't go wrong with that. Thanks Aaron, but you can't have mine back!
– chastin seeby i do have one question this seems very familar to somthing criss angel did when he was in a club but did it with a glass heineken bottle is this the same please help..
– Kurtis I saw this performed in the park last week, bought my own and absolutely love it! This gets better reactions than anything I have owned in a long time. Great instructions and the product is well made.
– Chris Obviously the best trick of 2006! Congrats on a trick that makes me feel like a REAL magician. This is something I would do if I had real magic powers.
– Levi Hisel This trick dosn't look good at first, but it is. Just be carefull when your taking it out of the mailing package, incase the gimic came out of its protective covering.
– Darren Very suprised that I can actually do this trick. Even more suprised at how often the chance comes up to perform it. I really thought it would be in my junk drawer, but even as I write this it's in my pocket!
– DINK Holy smokes! I never leave home without it!
– adam bailey incredible! this trick is so easy yet so difficult to figure out. everyone I show is stunned!
– Nelson WOW! This trick rocks! I learned it the same day I got it in the mail and have been doing this trick every where! I will NEVER be without Scarabaeus.
– DJK I get awesome reactions from The Scarabaeus! Everyone I show it to is floored. It's a really easy idea too I can see why it is so popular!
– Patrick Grégoire Don't say it sucks until you try it. I received it and thought it was the most retarted idea ever, but trust me when I say that the reactions are priceless and nobody ever even knows where to begin trying to figure out how the heck you penetrated an object through a bottle. This is great.
– Michael Dawson Final effect is fantastic with spectators, however, I would be careful with specs cellphone (maybe its better to use your own which can be examined first). There are also some slight technical issues with gimmicks (clink noise) that can easily be fixed at home. How about an online video?
– Devin Oh my god! I am very surpised at how easy this is. I was ready for it to be like so difficult!!! you will carry it every where!
– Howard Precision! I'm in love with this thing. The instructions are clear and easy to understand. I'm already doing this at the house but will venture out this weekend to perform live!
– Mr. Mystery I just got this trick and i practiced it once in front of the mirror. the trick is very well planned out. it is a killer trick and very easy to perform. i highly reccomend buying this one.
